Braecrest...A First Impression by Marj O'Donnell
We arrive on time. I follow Sue's red car down the driveway. I don't really want to do this. I've looked into his eyes too many times in three years - and he knows me, too! .... Be realistic... A very quiet, peaceful place...
Ah, the welcoming committee - a greyhound and a small black and tan terrier and a very vociferous and limping, yet otherwise extremely healthy, goose... Good parking area, away from the barns. Everything looks tidy and safe. I've only heard good things...
So far, I like this place and I'm thinking this can only be a good thing for me and for the horse. we are out of the cars. Now where is Claire Hunter and what is she like? I've only heard good things... Here's someone now.
We are invited into the main barn where Claire is finished up with a horse and Angie is helping. A very quiet, peaceful barn. Yes, this is nice. Lots to offer. Claire asks the question. What is it that you want for your horse? I'm thinking, as I had thought many times before - I know he needs to have a greater purpose in life. He's a good horse and he can make someone happy - maybe even proud!
Then, my words... "needs to be sold...there are more at home...has only really been backed and I'm not sure what else... I was there when he was born and have handled him all his life so far... he's a good boy... he has manners and the first time he was asked, he walked right onto the trailer... he's never been hurt and he trusts people."
Stop now before you start to....oops, too late!
I'm rambling. (Not at all unusual but get back to it, you fool - this is a business and you are on someone else's time!) I've only heard good things... Now the necessary talk about when I want to start this process - "Oh, as soon as there's a stall available, if that suits you, Claire!" I've only heard good things... I realise that I don't have such a knot in my stomach anymore. A very quiet, peaceful solution... Thank you Claire, I couldn't be more pleased!
