From Odia Carr, the story of Willie

After many efforts, I am sitting down to tell the tale of Willie.
My testimonial to Claire is a little bit different than the others. Mine is a story of what Claire has done for me…

I bought my horse from a dealer who got him straight from the track. He was under weight, over furry and wearing only one shoe on his horribly neglected feet. I kept him with a friend who fattened him up, and shined him up.

I played with him and got to know him and finally decided in February it was time to start some real work. So having heard of Claire through the grape vine I gave her a call. I asked her if she thought she could have Willie ready for a combined event in April, something new to me and Willie.

Claire and I Met and talked about my “issues” . I am an amazing worry wart and control freak, so to trust anybody with my precious baby was a huge deal for me. I was impressed at Claire’s attitude towards my overbearing ways and I knew she would be what I needed.

The day she came to pick up Willie the weather was horrible! I followed the trailer all the way with my heart in my throat! When we arrived I was so relieved and so thrilled with Claire’s towing abilities I nearly cried. I don’t think Claire ever knew I was on my cell the entire way calling ahead for weather updates.

Willie quickly settled into his cushy stall and proceeded to be pampered with massages and grooming sessions created for a king. Throughout his training I was always welcome to come and visit and watch his progress. Claire emailed me almost daily to fill me in on his progress and set my mind at ease that he was O.K. By the end of his stay he had far surpassed what I had ever imagined. He was a superstar in everyway. His final day with Claire (graduation) was spent at his combined event! He made it after all!

I met Claire at the show and Willie walked off the trailer looking like a champion. He was braided and clipped and in front of me stood a glorious 17’1 hand graduate. A very different horse from 2 months previous. Willie was full of himself and very excited to be there. To be honest I was nervous of him and ready to back out. I will always remember what Claire said when she knew I was ready to change my mind.

“Trust your Horse.”

And so I did. We had an amazing day. From that day on Willie and I had big plans. We bonded more and more and I always knew he would take care of me.

On May 31rst, only on month later, Willie past away suddenly at home. We had one hour together before he took his last breath in my arms.

It took me 5 months to get it together to write this all down, I couldn’t figure out what words to use, or how to approach but after months of morning it seems clear. Claire gave me the most amazing moments with my boy. She created something amazing between a girl and her horse and she was a huge part of memories that will last me forever.

Thank you so much Claire for all you did for us.
